Most of us will admit that we are where we are and who we are mainly due to the quality of education and nurturing that we received in our formative years in elementary and high school. Many of us are indebted to fine teachers at both the Sandy Point Elementary School (SPES) and the Sandy Point High School (SPHS).
We have taken away from SPES & SPHS more than just "book" knowledge. We were groomed to be fine men and women capable of making an impact in our community and on society at large. Is it too much to ask then to "invest in the future of our youth?" This is an investment well worth making. It will help to ensure that the future will be in even better hands.
Any school that depends solely on the government for financial support will not achieve its goals. Our support and encouragement of our youth will go along way to help ensure that they continue to get a quality education to enable them to be competitive in universities and colleges anywhere in the world. Some of the goals that we have established for this year include: funding a new generator, $1000s in scholarships, and computers. That's why your support is so important to the survival of our beloved schools and the motivation of our students.
In the past, recipients of our awards have distinguished themselves at universities in the US, Canada, Cuba, and the UK. Indeed many have distinguished themselves in academia, sports, and industrial careers.
Annual Fund Raising
In an effort to raise funds we are planning a number of events and activities throughout the year. These include an annual raffle, and a dinner & Dance. Both are still in the planning stages. This year again we hope to see you on Eastern Parkway for the annual Labor Day Parade in New York City where we will be out soliciting donations.
We would love to hear from you with any fund raising ideas, contributions, etc. Our plan is to have an annual major fund-raising event in New York City each year around the Labor Day weekend.
Preserving Sandy Point’s Heritage
Sandy Pointers often boast of being the first town on St. Kitts. We also have another proud heritage—that of a very well educated population. Sandy Pointers are in lead positions where ever they set foot. We have had some excellent leaders and teachers in the past who instilled in us the need to excel in whatever we put our mind to. Our nation, the companies for which we work are the better for it. Our goal is to continue to support this proud heritage in education excellence. |
